Barberitos is donating to Poverty Is Real’s second annual benefit concert for the Athens-based organization Whatever It Takes. Last year’s concert was extremely successful. This year, on December 7, 2012, the 40 Watt Club in downtown Athens, Georgia will host a concert featuring The Interns, The District Attorneys, Hope For Agoldensummer, and Dave Marr.
Barberitos Franchising announced the opening of its 30th restaurant location in Yulee, Florida. The new store will open at the beginning of December 2012.
The new location is being opened by partners and veteran franchisees, Chris Manus and Hudson Wade, who already own a Barberitos location on Amelia Island in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
They decided to open a Barberitos in Yulee after having such success with his Amelia Island store, which is just down the road.
Barberitos Thomasville hosted a large breast cancer awareness fundraising event. They served pink chips for the occasion and donated over $1800 to Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology. Barberitos in Thomasville, Georgia sold breast cancer themed t-shirts featuring the slogan “We Give Hope with Our Food” and proceeds from t-shirt sales were donated as well.
On October 1, Barberitos launched its month-long breast cancer awareness campaign, “Barberitos Gives Breast Cancer the Boot.”
On the same day, the downtown Athens, Georgia, location hosted a Throwback for Breast Cancer Event, featuring the original crew from the first Barberitos store in 2000.
Founder and CEO Downing Barber was behind the line rolling burritos with wife and CFO Candace Barber, compliance director Noah Brendel, and downtown Athens store owner Keith Neace.
All of the proceeds from lunch were donated to the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support.
Barberitos Franchising has rolled out a social media contest where fans register to win a $500 Barberitos gift certificate along with other healthy prizes that include an iPod Shuffle and a Nike gift certificate, among others.
These prizes go along with the Barberitos “Get Fit & Get Healthy” campaign that was inspired by Jay Lowe, a devoted Barberitos customer who lost 70 pounds with the help of Barberitos’ farm-fresh burritos and other healthy options.
The contest will continue to run through the month of October.

New franchisees Timm and Kate Phillips, from High Point, North Carolina, decided to open a Barberitos location in Asheville after frequenting the Barberitos in High Point.
The Southwestern Grille offers alcoholic beverages, free wireless for customers, and outdoor seating. In addition, kids eat free (with the purchase of an adult entree) on Mondays after 4 p.m.
This past January, Barberitos kicked off its 2012 Healthy Campaign to promote weight loss and wellness with an alternative healthy menu and a nutrition calculater added to the website.
To prove that Barberitos and a healthy lifestyle is possible, Barberitos featured Jay Lowe, a customer who lost more than 70 lbs. by exercising regularly and eating Barberitos eight times a week for four months.

Barberitos has rolled out a new limited-time menu item, Mango Salsa. The Mango Salsa is available system-wide and rolled out for customers on May 11, 2012.
The Mango Salsa is a blend of ingredients that makes it perfect to eat alone or add to any menu item. The Mango Salsa is a healthy option and is available to be added to any low-calorie meal and give it an extra refreshing flavor.
Barberitos in Johnson City is giving everything away for free for a great cause on May 19. Barberitos is partnering with Rise Up, a local non-profit that works with under-resourced kids in the Johnson City area.
The May 19 event stemmed from Rise Up needing a new bus to transport kids from their school to Rise Up’s facility in east Johnson City.
