Former United States Army Sgt. Bill Palaich signed the first discounted franchise-fee agreement with Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. The half-price fee offer is available through the VetFran program, which helps match veterans with franchise opportunities. Palaich and wife Marcia will open their Bruster’s Real Ice Cream shop in Clermont, Florida next year. Currently, the nearest Bruster’s Ice Cream shop is 30 miles away in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The winners: Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania, franchisees Mario and Brenda Leone and Tom Ely, and Bowling Green, Kentucky, franchisee Stuart Kirby. Each received a $5,000 check.

Bowing to guests' requests, Bruster's Real Ice Cream has added three seasonal flavors to its line-up of made-on-site premium frozen treats. Through July, Bruster's will be scooping Black Raspberry and Black Raspberry Chocolate Chunk ice cream made with real fruit. Peach, with its fresh, off-the-tree taste, will complete the limited-time trio.
