The BurgerFi commitment to their "Never Never Program" means no steroids, antibiotics, growth hormones, chemicals, or additives are ever used.  Menu options include fresh-cut fries, hand battered onion rings, Kobe beef hot dogs, a made in-house quinoa VegieFi Burger, secret sauce, freshly prepared custards, concretes, colas made with natural cane sugar, craft beer selections, wine, and more.

Between the Buns

Fast-casual concepts usher in new era of burger innovation.

Burger restaurant concepts use premium ingredients to capture new customers.
Burger 21's Black Bean Burger includes lettuce, tomato, red onion, salsa, avocado, sun-dried tomato aioli, and cilantro cream on a toasted whole-wheat bun.

The combined influence of better-burger restaurants and the fast-casual customization model has had a profound impact on what burger brands now offer consumers. A recent survey by Chicago-based technology and services company Food Genius, which measures menu mentions at restaurant across the U.S., shows that while traditional ingredients like onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms are still the most popular topping options, more unique foods are taking root at burger concepts across the country.

He and his business partner, Henry Talerico, recently took their expertise into the quick-service space and now own a BurgerFi in Winter Park, Florida. Eighteen months after open, Pagano and his partner are operating one of the top-performing BurgerFi units and have plans for 10–15 additional locations, four of which will open in the next six months.

The Table Service Upgrade

Firehouse Subs, BurgerFi add table service to score real estate in Florida town.

Fast casual brands added table service to open on Winter Park's Park Avenue.
Park Avenue in Winter Park, Florida, only allows restaurants with a table-service model.

The city of Winter Park, Florida, was in a quandary. Up-and-coming fast-casual concepts Firehouse Subs and BurgerFi wanted to move into the town’s upscale dining and shopping district, Park Avenue, but business owners and city officials were worried that the posh image would become tarnished with the addition of limited-service operators.

As a compromise, the two brands did something unusual in the quick-service industry: They added table-service components.

The Other Side of Super

Superfoods have swept the culinary world into a frenzy, enticing consumers with a taste of the exotic and courting them with nutrition and functionality, to the point where restaurants across the country are trying to stake a claim in this fledgling movement.

Quick-service restaurants are keeping in stride, and many have ventured beyond the common açai and goji berry superfruits, as well as the kale super vegetable. Many quick serves are now leveraging a wider spectrum of superfoods, using whole grains, nuts, and seeds in fresh and innovative ways.
