To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Chips Ahoy! cookie and satisfy the most discriminate chocolate cravings, the Dairy Queen system, a Berkshire Hathaway company, debuts the new Chips Ahoy! Blizzard Treat as the August Blizzard of the Month.
On May 29, Dairy Queen Grill & Chill opened in its first restaurant in Manhattan, New York City.
“This opening is certainly a long time in coming, but is well worth the wait,” says John Gainor, president and CEO for International Dairy Queen, Inc. “Our fans have been requesting that we open in Manhattan so we are thrilled to finally be here. National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5–9, but the Dairy Queen system is extending the celebration throughout the month of May with the return of the Orange Julius Treat for Teachers essay contest, presented by Orange Julius at DQ. The second annual contest gives teachers an opportunity to receive funding for classroom supplies just in time for the new school year.
After a successful entry into the state of New York with a unit in Long Island, Dairy Queen is set to open its Grill & Chill concept in Manhattan this spring. Located on West 14th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, this DQ Grill & Chill will also be the brand’s first two-story restaurant.
“It’s an iconic market,” says John Gainor, CEO of International Dairy Queen Corp. “We have not have not had a Dairy Queen presence in Manhattan, and like many things, the opportunity is the result of the timing of having the right concept and the right operator or franchisee.”
Back by popular demand, the Dairy Queen system brings back the Confetti Cake Blizzard Treat as the featured Blizzard of the Month for April. The Confetti Cake Blizzard Treat is available in a Waffle Cone for the first time.
On Tax Day, April 15, the Dairy Queen system is giving away signature Waffle Cone Holders along with a $10 DQ gift card to 100 lucky Blizzard Fan Club members.
After spending more than 12 years in the healthcare industry in Massapequa, New York, Laura Maier noticed a problem with her town: There was no Dairy Queen. As most of the country digs out from a particularly snow-filled winter, the Dairy Queen system is celebrating the dawn of spring by going green with the return of the Mint Oreo Blizzard Treat as the featured Blizzard of the Month for March.
A mix of crème de menthe topping and Oreo cookie pieces blended with DQ vanilla soft serve, the Mint Oreo Blizzard Treat is available at participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill restaurants nationwide beginning March 3.
Quick-service restaurant industry veteran William “Bill” Spae has been named the CEO of Vasari LLC, the second largest franchisee in the Dairy Queen system and the largest franchisee in Texas.
The Dairy Queen system is opening a new treat concept, a DQ Treat store in Tucson, Arizona. The location offers all of the Dairy Queen soft-serve treats as well as Orange Julius products, including an array of fruit beverages and smoothies. In addition, the store also will serve Dairy Queen signature Iron Grilled Sandwiches as well as hot dogs. Located in the Park Place Mall food court at 4870 East Broadway Boulevard, the 324 square-foot restaurant employs a staff of eight.
