DQ, Orange Julius Create 50 Jobs in Lynnwood, Wash.

The Dairy Queen system has always been about sharing smiles and stories. Now, the company has opened a new DQ Grill & Chill restaurant and a DQ Orange Julius store in Lynnwood, Washington, creating 50 jobs.

The 2.135 square-foot DQ Grill & Chill restaurantis located at 121st Street and Mukilteo Speedway, and has seating for 69 and a drive-thru window. The DQ Orange Julius store is located at the food court in the Alderwood Mall, 3000 184 St., S.W.

DQ’s Store Count in China Hits 500, More Planned

The Dairy Queensystem, part of Berkshire Hathaway, has opened its 500th location in China and has plans to open more than 100 new restaurants there by the end of 2012. China has been the strongest international expansion market for the global retail treat category leader, which opened its first Dairy Queen location there in 1991 in Beijing.

The 500th DQ restaurant, located in the Hu Dong finance district in Shanghai, is operated by Shanghai Shida Catering Management Company, which has more than 350 Dairy Queen locations throughout southern and eastern China.

Alicia Jindra of Andover, Minnesota, placed first in the Dairy Queen system’s “Iron Tip” Cake Decorating International Competition. Jindra competed as a DQ master cake decorator against four other finalists from around the world.

Jindra is an esteemed cake decorator at the Dairy Queen restaurant located at 3595 River Rapids Dr. NW in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

DQ Raises $5M for Miracle Network

The Dairy Queen system raised more than $5 million to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals during the 6th Annual DQ Miracle Treat Day.

On that day, participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill restaurants throughout North America donated $1 or more from every Blizzard Treat sold to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada.

Since 1984, the Dairy Queen system has raised more than $90 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

DQ Honors Top Dairies, Vendors, Distributors

The Dairy Queen system announced the recipients of its annual Distributor, Vendor, and Dairy of the Year Awards for the U.S. and Canada. Unified Supply Chain Inc. (USCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of International Dairy Queen Inc. (IDQ), as well as the Canadian (CDQ) Co-op, annually recognize supply chain partners that provide superior service and outstanding support to more than 5,000 Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill locations in the U.S. and Canada.
