Dunkin’ Donuts announced that it has filed for permits to open its first traditional restaurants in California. The new restaurants are planned for Downey, Long Beach, Modesto, Santa Monica, and Whittier. Specific locations and anticipated opening dates will be announced later this summer, with construction scheduled to begin later in June.
While it’s become standard practice for corporate brands to engage consumers through channels such as Facebook and Twitter, location-specific marketing could be the new wave of social media. Increasingly, quick-service brands are targeting consumers in individual markets across the U.S.
“It’s really messy [for a brand] to set up [social media pages] regardless of if they intended to start localized social or not,” says Erica McClenny, senior vice president of product management at social software firm Expion.

The new DD Perks Rewards program was launched nationwide earlier this year, offering guests points toward free Dunkin’ Donuts beverages for every qualifying purchase they make at participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations.

The Chicken Apple Sausage Breakfast Sandwich is available any time of day at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide for a limited time.
Dunkin’ Donuts announced the signing of multiunit store development agreements with two new franchise groups to develop 20 new California restaurants in South Orange County and the San Fernando Valley area over the next several years.
New franchise group Precision Hospitality & Development plans to develop 10 restaurants in South Orange County and the surrounding cities. Led by real estate developer Joe Haupt, the group’s first restaurant is planned to open in 2015.
