National news headlines have recently been peppered with stories of quick-serve customers behaving badly and employees keeping their cool. From last year’s video of a Chick-fil-A drive-thru employee smartly handling an irate customer to this year’s story of a Dairy Queen crewmember who stood up to a woman after she took money from a blind man, quick-serve employees have been thrust into the national spotlight by offering shining examples of good customer service.
Dunkin’ Donuts announced its plans to expand to California’s Central Valley and Central Coast, including Fresno, Bakersfield, Sacramento, and Santa Barbara. The company is recruiting multi-unit operators to open both traditional restaurants and a wide range of non-traditional venues, including colleges and universities, casinos, military bases, supermarkets, airports, and travel centers. Dunkin’ Donuts plans to open as many as 1,000 restaurants throughout the state.
Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, announced the signing of a multistore development agreement with existing franchisees, Harry Patel and Parag Patel, to develop 18 new standalone restaurants in North Orange County and the Central Inland Empire. The first restaurant from their agreement is expected to open in 2015. New franchisees Jeff Shady and Jordon DiBiase will develop eight new standalone restaurants in the North Inland Empire, with their first restaurant also opening in 2015.
RSR Research unveiled the results of a benchmarking report entitled, “Digital Gift Cards: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.” This is the third time RSR has conducted an evaluation of top retailers’ digital gifting experiences. This October, Dunkin’ Donuts has two new ways for on-the-go people to claim their steaks, having launched the new Angus Steak & Cheese Wraps. Offering a full portion of Angus steak wrapped in a warm, eight-inch tortilla, Dunkin’ Donuts’ Angus Steak & Cheese Wraps are served with white Cheddar cheese and the choice of either barbecue or ranch sauce. The Angus Steak & Cheese Wraps are available at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide for a limited time.
National Coffee Day and International Coffee Day are this Sunday, September 29, and Dunkin’ Donuts is planning a celebration fit to a “T.” In addition to treating fans to a mobile offer via the Dunkin’ App for a free small cup of coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants, as well as special in-store offers for Dunkin’ Donuts packaged coffee and K-Cup packs, Dunkin’ will mark National Coffee Day with the launch of the first-ever Dunkin’ Donuts-themed global T-shirt design challenge, in partnership with Threadless, a creative community that makes, supports, and buys great art.
The opening of the first West Valley City, Utah, Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 5 a.m. There will also be a VIP party on Monday, September 30, with free samplings of Munchkins and iced or hot coffee for guests who stop in between 6 and 9 a.m.
The new restaurant includes a drive thru and is conveniently located in a new business development near West Valley City’s new Target store.

Local Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees in Providence, Rhode Island—Joe, Chris, and Cliff Prazeres—and their fellow franchisees, employees, suppliers, and partners exceeded their goal of raising more than $250,000 for Special Olympics Rhode Island at the 5th Annual John Henderson Invitational Golf Tournament held at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
The Prazeres family made a five-year commitment in 2009 to raise $250,000 to help fund the construction of a sports education and training facility at Special Olympics Rhode Island headquarters.
Dunkin’ Donuts announced that it has signed agreements with two franchise groups to begin developing Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the United Kingdom. The two agreements call for the development of 50 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Greater London over the next five years, with an initial focus on North London and East London.
The chain is also in advanced discussions with additional franchise partners to help develop a total of 150 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the U.K. over the next five years, which includes the two signed agreements.
