Fazoli’s Adds Italian Lemon Ice Flavors to Permanent Menu

Just in time for warm weather, Fazoli’s, the Italian quick-service restaurant chain, has introduced two Italian Lemon Ice flavors to its permanent menu.

The refreshing flavors, Wildberry Lemon Ice and Peach Lemon Ice, are now available at all company restaurants, with plans to roll them out at franchised units in the future. These beverages, made with real fruit puree, complement Fazoli’s existing flavors of original Italian Lemon Ice and Strawberry Lemon Ice, which also is made with real fruit.

May 13 is Mother's Day, the one time in the year when kids and husbands around the world show their appreciation to the person who holds it all together. For the second year in a row, Fazoli's is getting in on the celebration. In each participating market, the Italian restaurant chain is crowning one lucky mom Fazoli's Mother of the Year

The prize: to sit down and let someone else cook, with free meals from Fazoli's for a year.

Summer Hiring Race Is On

Operators are hiring early to secure top-level talent.

The heat is already on for summer seasonal hiring, as quick-serve managers are hiring summer help earlier in the year to have their pick of top-shelf applicants.

Snagajob, a Richmond, Virginia–based hourly employment network, released its annual summer job survey in March. The report found that 23 percent of summer positions will be filled by the end of April, while 79 percent will be filled by the end of May.

Fazoli's Opens First Travel Plaza Unit, More to Come

Fazoli’s has debuted its first unit in a travel plaza, marking an additional venue for the popular premium Italian quick-service restaurant chain.

Franchisee Par Mar Stores, a division of Par Mar Oil Co., has agreed to open two more Fazoli’s at other travel plazas in West Virginia and Ohio within the next two years.

The new store, which celebrated its grand opening April 5, is located at an interstate exit near Fairmont, West Virginia. It seats 38, is about 1,800 square feet, and offers dine-in, carryout, and drive-thru services.

Fazoli’s Reports Best January Sales Growth in Its History

Fazoli’s, America’s largest premium Italian quick-service restaurant chain, is off to a running start in 2012 with record same-store sales growth in January.

Company units posted a 12.1 percent year-over-year increase, with franchisees reporting a 9.9 percent jump. It was Fazoli’s best January sales growth in its history.

This makes for the 19th straight month of sales improvement for franchised restaurants and the 18th continuous month for company locations. It follows the brand’s best quarter since 1999.

Restaurants Hit the Open Road

Brands eye roadside travel centers for growth opportunity.

With at least two mid-size restaurant chains planning to expand through highway travel centers in the coming year, other quick serves looking to grow may want to hit the open road.

Both Huddle House and Fazoli’s, which, respectively, have 430 locations and 230 locations nationwide, are in the process of opening new stores at roadside travel centers, according to the companies.

Huddle House is a diner concept based in Decatur, Georgia, and is planning to add six truck-stop locations to the 25 it already has through an agreement with travel-center operator Pilot Flying J.

After Record-Setting End to '11, Fazoli's Has High Hopes for '12

Fazoli’s is enjoying big same-store sales gains at the end of 2011, and CEO and president Carl Howard plans to carry that success into 2012 with a number of hospitality enhancements and new expansion strategies.

The Italian quick-serve concept experienced a 6.6 percent increase in same-store sales in November, the best November since 1998. And Howard says the company is on pace to have double-digit same-store sales growth in December, potentially topping its all-time December high of 12.4 percent.
