How McDonald's Can Improve Customer Service

The Wall Street Journal reported about a recent webcast McDonald’s executives delivered to the company’s franchisees discussing the deterioration of the customer-service quality delivered by employees. The article describes the fast-food giant’s strong position on fixing these issues and addressing the customer-service problems. Comments on the Web echo the same feelings, recognizing what can sometimes be apathetic—maybe even outright rude—attitudes received from employees.

The Story of the Sea

Customers are increasingly interested in the story behind their food. That’s good news for the seafood industry.

The fish used for McDonald’s Fish McBites and Filet-O-Fish sandwich is not local. Nor is the product used for Long John Silver’s Whitefish Fillet. Same goes for Wendy’s Premium Fish Fillet Sandwich, Jack in the Box’s Fish Sandwich, and Quiznos’ Lobster and Seafood Salad.

Not local, that is, unless the consumer lives in a place where the sun might not come up until 9:30 a.m., depending on the time of year. A place where even Subway and Starbucks have not ventured. A place at the edge of the world.

McDonald’s Wraps Up Newest Permanent Menu Item

McDonald's is adding a new chicken offering to its menu, the new Premium McWrap, which will roll out to restaurants nationwide.

The new tortilla-wrapped entree features fresh vegetables, grilled or crispy chicken breast, and signature sauces like seasoned rice vinegar, sweet chili, or creamy garlic.

The wrap is served in a handheld packaged designed to fit the busy, on-the-go lifestyle.

The wrap made its way to the U.S. from McDonald's Europe, where in 2004 it launched in Poland as one of its most successful menu items.

Wendy's Ranks No. 1 for Kid-Friendly, Healthy Options

According to Restaurant DemandTracker, a recent survey of restaurant customers in the United States, households with younger kids are much more likely to seek out restaurants with kid-friendly menus, and many of those consumers are looking for healthier food items on the menu for their families.

Households with younger children are especially likely to value a kid-friendly menu and slightly more likely to value healthy menu choices than households with older children.

Africa: The Final Frontier?

They knew it wouldn’t be easy. Being the first U.S. quick serve to enter a foreign country always comes with a share of challenges.

But for Cinnabon’s executives, becoming the first U.S. franchise to open in Libya didn’t just include dealing with training and supply-chain difficulties. The brand also faced political instability that eventually resulted in a revolution.
