Pork was promoted for years as “the other white meat” to boost its exposure and dispel consumer perception that it’s too fatty. These days, pork is anything but “other” at many limited-service restaurants, though it’s often under the guise of specific ingredients: Menus mention items like sausage at breakfast, pepperoni for pizzas, and ham on sandwiches. And of course there’s bacon, a foodservice staple made from pork bellies.

Pork is increasingly finding a home on quick-serve menus due to consumers’ evolving tastes and the product’s flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

Newk's Celebrates Year No. 10 with Little Rock Unit

Newk’s Eatery will celebrate its 10th anniversary by opening a new store in Midtown Little Rock, Arkansas. The Park Avenue location opens Monday, April 14, and will be the 10th company-owned store in the 68-restaurant chain.

“Over the last 10 years, Newk’s has solidified its position in the Southeast,” says Chris Newcomb, president and CEO of the franchise restaurant concept. “Now, as we begin contiguous expansion into other regions, Little Rock plays a vital role as our anchor and gateway into the Lower Midwest.”

Sentinel Capital Partners Invests in Newk's Growth

Newk’s Holding Company announced that Sentinel Capital Partners, a New York–based private equity firm, has made a significant capital investment in the Newk’s Eatery fast-casual brand and assumed ownership interest in the company. Newk’s Holding Company, with 67 franchised and company-owned restaurants across 13 states, is scheduled to open 15 locations this year and reach 200 total restaurants by 2019, a goal that will further bolster the company’s position among Technomic’s 50 top fast-casual chain restaurants nationwide.

Newk's Offers Lenten-Friendly Spring Menu

Newk’s Eatery’s spring menu will prominently feature culinary-inspired seafood dishes suited for the Lenten season. From March through mid-May, the popular Salmon & Arugula Salad introduced last spring will once again be at the center of the company’s limited time menu. It will appear alongside the company’s other year-round seafood fan favorites, Spicy Shrimp Pizza, Lobster Crab Bisque, Newk’s Signature Shrimp Po’boy, and Caesar Salad topped with Salmon. These selections will be available all week long in nearly 70 restaurants through May 11.

Newk’s Franchisee Inks Deal for Six Nashville Locations

Newk’s Eatery recently recognized its 10th anniversary with a celebration at the original restaurant located in Oxford, Mississippi. The event was an opportunity for former partners and current leadership to celebrate 10 years being open. It was also a time for the original store’s general manager, Phillip O’Reilly, to sign a franchise agreement expanding his current Nashville-area contract.

Newk's Announced Year-End Growth

With eight new restaurant openings scheduled for completion within the fourth quarter of 2013, Newk’s Eatery is undergoing exponential growth. Newk’s first restaurant was opened in Oxford, Mississippi, in 2004 by founder, Chris Newcomb. Today, the Newk’s Franchise Company has grown to include nine company-owned and 54 franchise-owned restaurants.

Newk’s Battles Cold Weather with Comfort Food

Newk’s Eatery’s, the 61-unit casual restaurant concept, expanded its menu to include three comfort food entrées available through the first week of January. The new limited-time menu offerings—Five Cheese Grilled Cheese, Turkey Cranberry Sandwich, and Pimiento Cheese Pizza—come just in time for the holidays and will roll out company-wide.

The oven-baked Five Cheese Grilled Cheese is layered with Havarti, Gruyere, Monterey Jack, Gouda, and Cheddar, with the additional option to add a sprinkle of bacon bits.

Newk’s Eatery Welcomes Keith Moody

Newk’s Eatery announced the hire of Keith Moody as territory director of franchise operations for the fast-casual restaurant concept. Moody has been in franchise restaurant operations for more than 20 years and will apply his skills and knowledge to assist in Newk’s rapid expansion.

“The driving force behind me coming to work at Newk’s was the food, which is outrageously good,” Moody says. “I know that when people try it, they will return again and again.”

Newk’s Brings Out The Pork For LTO Fall Menu

Newk’s Eatery’s, a 58-unit fresh-casual restaurant concept, has expanded the fall line to include three pork entrées.

The new limited-time menu offerings—Newk’s PB&Q, The Cuban, and the Pork Tenderloin Platter catering menu addition—are being rolled out system-wide.

Newk’s PB&Q and The Cuban are made with pork that is hand-rubbed with secret spices and brined on-site for a full 24 hours to create juicy tenderloin.
