Jim Amos Steps Down as CEO of Tasti D-Lite, Planet Smoothie

Franchise leader Jim Amos announced he is stepping down as CEO of Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie at the end of 2012 to move forward with other endeavors, including serving on the boards of various franchise companies and focusing on his advocacy in franchise and veterans’ affairs. 

Following Amos’ departure as CEO, Peter D. Holt, the company’s chief operating officer, will be promoted to the role of president and CEO. Holt brings more than 25 years of franchising experience to the company.

Tasti D-Lite, Planet Smoothie Waive Franchise Fees for Vets

Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie are waiving 100 percent of the franchise fee for military veterans through the remainder of 2012. This incentive equates to $30,000 in savings to veterans interested in owning a Tasti D-Lite, Planet Smoothie, or dual-brand store.

Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie CEO Jim Amos is a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam. He received 12 decorations including the Purple Heart and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Amos is also the author of The Memorial: A Novel of the Vietnam War.

Tasti D-Lite, Planet Smoothie CEO Named to IFA Hall of Fame

James H. Amos Jr., CFE, chairman, and CEO of Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie, has been named to the International Franchise Association (IFA) Hall of Fame. The announcement was made this week at the IFA’s 52nd annual convention.

The Hall of Fame award is the oldest and most prestigious award conferred by the IFA and is presented to an IFA member who exemplifies the best of franchising and has made significant contributions to the advancement of franchising and the franchising community.

Tasti D-Lite Acquires Planet Smoothie, Plans Cobranding

Tasti D-Lite, the lower-calorie frozen dessert chain catering to health-conscious consumers, has announced the acquisition of Planet Smoothie, LLC, a franchise system with more than 100 units in operation, mainly in Georgia and Florida. 

Planet Smoothie is a national franchisor and consumer products business that sells smoothies and all-natural snacks to health-conscious consumers. 

Help Veterans, Help Your Brand

A proliferation of incentive programs may recruit more military veterans into the restaurant franchising business.

On August 5, President Obama proposed several tactics that would help military veterans returning to civilian life find jobs. The president also called on Congress to re-introduce the Help Veterans Own Franchises (HVOF) Act, which was originally introduced in 2009.

The new proposals, and passage of the HVOF Act, could result in an influx of military veterans becoming quick-serve franchisees.

Planet Smoothie Goes Light on New Line

Planet Smoothie, a Petrus Brands company, announced the launch of Planet Light, which includes more than 20 smoothies under 300 calories. Planet Light smoothies are sweetened with LeanLeaf, Planet Smoothie’s proprietary sweetener made from a blend of Agave and Stevia plants, which is all natural and contains no sugar.

Planet Smoothie, a Petrus Brands company, announced the launch of Planet Pro, a protein meal replacement powder. Planet Pro is offered in light and regular formulas, both of which can be utilized as meal replacements based on their protein, calories, and carb counts.

Planet Pro Light features 25 grams of protein, 160 calories, two grams of sugar, and seven grams of carbs. Planet Pro offers40 grams of protein, 250 calories, three grams of sugar, and 12 grams of carbs.
