Americans’ love affair with ethnic food doesn’t seem to be ebbing. The number of various cultures’ restaurants continues to grow as diners seek new flavors and ingredients from around the world.

According to data from global market research firm Mintel, four in every five Americans who ate out in March 2012 dined at an ethnic restaurant. More than half of them dined at one of the nation’s three largest ethnic restaurant types: Chinese, Mexican, and Italian.

The exclusive 12-12-12 deal consists of an entire Pollo Tropical marinated chicken, a family-sized side dish of white rice and beans, and dinner rolls for just $12.12.

The 12-12-12 Family Meal is available at all company-owned Pollo Tropical restaurant locations. Limit one per customers.

Pollo Tropical Gives Guests the Gift of Tropical Flavor

During the festive holiday season, Pollo Tropical is giving its guests a chance to treat their friends and family to a Pollo Tropical Gift Card.

Starting December 3, customers who purchase a $25 gift card at one of its company-owned restaurants will receive a complimentary $5 gift certificate towards their next purchase.

The $5 complimentary coupons are valid January 1–January 31, 2013. 

Pollo Tropical is also offering customers an opportunity to add the flavor of the Caribbean to their holiday celebration and spend more quality time with family and friends.

Pollo Tropical Promotes Danny Meisenheimer to Interim COO

Pollo Tropical, the Caribbean-inspired quick-casual restaurant chain known for its marinated chicken on the grill, recently announced the promotion of Danny Meisenheimer to the position of interim chief operating officer, succeeding Jim Tunnessen following his retirement from the company as COO in January 2013.

Meisenheimer joined Pollo Tropical in early 2012 as its chief brand officer after more than 20 years of brand and operations leadership experience, having previously served as chief brand efficer and COO in the family-dining and quick-service restaurant categories.

Pollo Tropical Heads to India

Pollo Tropical announced that it has entered into its first franchise development agreement outside the Western Hemisphere—a 10-unit deal to bring the popular quick-casual chain of tropical flame-grilled chicken restaurants to northern India.

This marks the brand’s 11th international franchised market, extending its presence beyond the Latin America and Caribbean trade regions.

Fiesta Restaurant Group Appoints Schweinfurth as CFO

Fiesta Restaurant Group, Inc., the owner, operator, and franchisor of the Pollo Tropical and Taco Cabana fast-casual restaurant brands, announced today that Lynn Schweinfurth has joined the company as vice president and chief financial officer, effective July 16, 2012. With her appointment, Fiesta has now completed building its senior management team.

Pollo Tropical Opens in Fourth Largest Mall in South America

Pollo Tropical announced the opening of its third franchised restaurant in Caracas, Venezuela, at the Sambil Shopping Center, the fourth-largest mall in South America. This is the third in a 10-unit development agreement with Restaurantes Internacionales C.A.  

The Venezuelan-based franchisee has opened two other Pollo Tropical restaurants in Barquisimeto and Punto Fijo since 2010. 

Fiesta Restaurant Group Names Chief Development Officer

Fiesta Restaurant Group, Inc, the parent-owner of the Pollo Tropical and Taco Cabana brands, has named industry veteran John Todd as its chief development officer. 

Todd, who will report to Fiesta Restaurant CEO Tim Taft, will be responsible for all facets of Fiesta’s real estate and development, including site selection, design, and construction of new restaurants and the upgrading and re-imaging of existing facilities. In addition, he will work with Taft on various franchise initiatives.
