Smithfield’s Receives Heart-Warming Thanks from Troops

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q (SCNB) recently shipped care packages with official SCNB T-shirts and all of the ingredients needed to prepare its eastern North Carolina–style chicken, barbecue, and other southern staples to U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan.  

Although the brand knew its donation would be consumed and most likely appreciated, SCNB was not fully aware of the impact and reach the gift would garner. A few weeks after the delivery, Richard Averitte, SCNB’s operations director and director of marketing, received the following letter:

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is pleased to announce its recent participation as a meal sponsor for Rex Blood Center in Raleigh, N.C. On Monday, July 16, Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q provided lunches for blood drive donors at Rex Blood Center.

Rex Blood Services is a not-for-profit, community blood bank dedicated to providing a safe, adequate blood supply to patients at Rex Hospital and other area hospitals. In 1962, Rex Blood Services began as Raleigh's first community blood donor facility.

Smithfield's Bows 33rd Store in Jacksonville

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q announced the opening of a 33rd location of the North Carolina-based restaurant brand. The new store is located at 424 Yopp Road in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

The latest opening for the quick-service concept boasts 4,900 square feet and can seat approximately 140 diners hungry for the brand's famous fried chicken and Eastern North Carolina-style barbecue.

Smithfield’s Tees up for Charity Golf Tournament

The Knightdale High School Athletic Booster Club held its second annual Planter’s Walk Charity Golf Tournament at River Ridge Golf Club on April 20, 2012, to raise funds for college scholarships for student athletes.

Smithfield’s Chicken ’N Bar-B-Q provided food for the nearly 100 golfers at the banquet that followed.

The event was entirely organized and staffed by volunteers from the Planter’s Walk subdivision in Knightdale, home to more than 700 families.
