China Continues to Be Major Engine for Yum Growth

With more than half of Yum! Brands' profits now derived from stores in 73 emerging countries outside the U.S., Yum CEO David Novak said the company sees global growth as one of its biggest opportunities in 2012.

Novak said that China in particular is “the best restaurant growth opportunity of the 21st Century."

Taco Bell Rolls Out Breakfast 'First Meal'

Taco Bell today introduced FirstMeal, a new breakfast menu that offers 11 menu items in 10 Western states, including California, Arizona, and Colorado.

Featuring some of America’s favorite breakfast brands such as Johnsonville, Cinnabon, Tropicana, and Seattle’s Best Coffee, individual items will range from 99 cents (sausage or bacon and egg burrito) to $2.79 (Grande Skillet Burrito).

Participating restaurants will open their doors and drive-thrus one hour earlier. For most locations, that means 8 or 9 a.m., with breakfast ending at 11 a.m. local time.

Taco Bell unveiled its latest Major League Baseball TV spot, featuring San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson, Sept. 6 during Game 5 of the American League Division Series.

Titled “Closer 2.0,” it was a follow-up to last year’s commercial with the Yankees’ Mariano Rivera and Joe Girardi, in which Girardi had to call in Rivera to finish a customer’s XXL Chalupa, as it was too big.

But a recent study on Millennials finds that the demographic may be more similar to (and influenced by) its Gen X and Boomer counterparts than previously thought.

In fact, the study, “Culture of Millennials 2011,” challenges several widely held assumptions about Millennials, says Laurie Demeritt, president of Hartman Group, which released the study.
