UFood Grill Pulls Together for Reorganization

UFood Restaurant Group and its wholly owned subsidiaries filed a voluntary petition under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts in order to preserve its operations and to resolve its liquidity issues in the face of the slow recovery from the current economic downturn.

Other members of the UFood Group (including its affiliates and franchised stores in Massachusetts, Ohio, Texas, Utah, and Maryland) have not filed for protection.

UFood Grill Appoints Richard Golden as New CEO

UFood Restaurant Group Inc. announces that George Naddaff has resigned as the company’s chairman and chief executive officer. The Board of Directors also announced that it has elected Richard Golden, who has served on the company’s Board of Directors for the past three years, as the new chairman and CEO. “George has been an outstanding visionary and dedicated chief executive officer over the past eight years and I congratulate him for founding such an innovative fast-casual restaurant concept as UFood Grill,” Mr. Golden says.

UFood, Military Vets Pair Up for Expansion

UFood Restaurant Group Inc. announced that the company has signed a joint venture agreement with MBUF LLC, a private investment group of military veterans, to focus on the expansion of the UFood Grill concept on U.S. military installations around the world.

This venture will launch with the upcoming opening of the first of three UFood Grills at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Construction on the first unit will begin immediately, with an estimated opening in eight weeks.

Bostonians Now Have Luxury of Online Ordering at UFood Grill

UFood Restaurant Group Inc. is offering customers online ordering at its UFood Grill in the Downtown Crossing area of Boston starting today.

According to the National Restaurant Association's 2010 Restaurant Industry Operations Report, 53 percent of people ages 18–34 say they would order online.

UFood Grill Preps for Aggressive International Growth

UFood Restaurant Group Inc., through its partnership with London-based World Franchise Associates Ltd., is launching an aggressive expansion strategy to identify franchisees who will develop the UFood Grill brand in Europe and the Middle East.

UFood Grill Makes a Play for Middle East

UFood Restaurant Group Inc. announced that the company has signed an agreement with London-based World Franchise Associates Ltd. to seek franchisees who will develop the UFood Grill brand in the Middle East.

UFood Grill To Break Into Puerto Rican Market

UFood Restaurant Group, Inc.announced that the company has contracted with franchisee Manuel Rivera to develop and operate eight UFood Grills in Puerto Rico. The first of the units is projected to open in fall 2011.

"This is a great opportunity to expand our brand beyond the continental U.S.," says UFood CEO George Naddaff. "This will allow us to introduce UFood to the residents of Puerto Rico, while making our delicious and nutritious food available to our customers in the States who visit the island."

Three's a Charm for UFood Grill

UFood Restaurant Group Inc. announced that the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has awarded the company a contract to build and operate a third UFood Grill unit at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) in Maryland.

The company has already been awarded a contract to build and operate two additional UFood Grill units at Aberdeen. The restaurants are projected to open in summer 2011.

UFood Takes Flight at Salt Lake City Int'l Airport

 

UFood Restaurant Group announced that the company has been selected to build two UFood Grills at Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah. The new restaurants are a part of the airport's revitalized concessions program.

The restaurants will be owned and managed by franchisee Hojeij Branded Foods, a boutique company specializing in airport food and beverage concessions development, operations, and managing contracts at the nation's top airports.

UFood Restaurant Group, owner of UFood Grill, announced that the company has retained Mindshare Technologies to implement a comprehensive customer satisfaction program.

Mindshare's process captures customer feedback, resulting in real-time reporting that allows clients to act on data and make operational improvements, resulting in greater customer satisfaction.
