Wingstop Restaurants Inc. announced the appointment of Bill Engen as chief operating officer, effective immediately.
“Bill is a dynamic leader who brings a wealth of operations and management expertise to Wingstop,” says Charlie Morrison, Wingstop president and CEO. “We’re opening restaurants at record pace both in the U.S. and abroad, and Bill will be a tremendous asset to our team and to our franchisees as we continue to drive dramatic growth in both restaurant count and sales.”
Wingstop has landed in Hawaii. The chain opened its first restaurant in the Aloha State at the Gateway at Mililani Mauka in Mililani.
The new location operates under the leadership of Brand Partner Jon Savage, a partner in Asia Pacific Restaurant Group LLC, the Wingstop Hawaii franchise operator. Savage partners with longtime Wingstop brand partner Danny Sonenshine, who owns and operates 27 Wingstop locations throughout the U.S. The new location is the first of 10 planned Hawaii-based restaurants in a multiunit development agreement.
Wingstop soared to new heights in the second quarter of 2014. Building off its first quarter growth, Wingstop continued to outperform industry averages with a 15.3 percent increase in same-store sales growth.

When it comes to developing a quick-service concept, Wingstop CEO Charlie Morrison understands that the economic model remains a large piece of the puzzle. In creating a strong franchise deal that fosters company growth, however, Morrison and many other quick-service leaders know that many other tiles complete the mosaic, including corporate support, marketplace differentiation, and sales momentum.
Wingstop has landed in Indonesia. The award-winning wing concept, with more than 650 locations around the world, recently opened its first location in Jakarta at the Kota Kasablanka Mall with a huge crowd of guests, company leaders, the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, and members of the media in attendance.
Fresh off a record breaking year for growth, Wingstop continued to outperform industry averages in the first quarter of 2014 with a 9.6 percent increase in same store sales and an 8.2 percent increase in traffic.
In addition, Wingstop signed 25 new development agreements over the first three months of the year. The signings represent commitments for 57 new restaurants over nine states including Wingstop’s first entry into Kansas and Minnesota.
Wingstop unveiled its latest wing flavor—combining fiery chilies with a burst of lime, the brand put out Chili Lime wings.
The latest flavor, sauced, tossed, and made to order on classic or boneless wings, is available for a limited time at more than 600 Wingstop restaurants nationwide, and president and CEO Charlie Morrison says he expects it to quickly become a favorite.
“This is a whole new way to experience Chili Lime,” Morrison says. “Our fans have come to expect one-of-a-kind flavors from Wingstop and our creative team of Wing Experts continues to deliver.”
Fresh off a record-breaking year, Wingstop announced plans to significantly expand its presence in the Northeast by opening at least 25 new restaurants in the New Jersey area over the next five years.
The expansion will be accomplished through franchising, and Wingstop officials are actively seeking existing multiunit restaurant franchisees looking to add a new concept to their portfolio. One-on-one meetings are being scheduled with franchise prospects for March 19 and 20 at the Hilton East Brunswick in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Wingstop nominated Drew Heilman of Burleson as its sixth 2013–14 High School Scholar Athlete of the Month’, a program also sponsored by KTVT-TV CBS.
Heilman attends Centennial High School, where he serves as captain of the soccer team, ranks sixth in his senior class, and is a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of NASA’s 2013 Texas Aerospace Scholar. He also founded the high school’s engineering club and serves as its acting president.
Outside a new Memphis-area Wingstop, a small crowd of locals gathers for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening. The restaurant looks like most others in the Texas-based brand’s portfolio—a modest sign with a signature dark green sans serif type protrudes from a beige concrete exterior, aviation paraphernalia reminiscent of the ’30s and ’40s brings an air of nostalgia to the interior, and the menu boasts a selection of classic and boneless wings with 11 different sauce options.
