Burger King Corporation today promoted Enrique “Rick” Silva from vice president and general counsel, Latin America to president, Burger King Corporation’s Latin America/Caribbean region. Silva assumes the post vacated by Julio Ramirez, who was recently promoted to senior vice president of franchise operations and development, North America. He will report directly to Dennis Malamatinas, chief executive officer.

Within his new position, Silva will be responsible for managing the operations, marketing and development of the more than 470 Burger King restaurants in Latin America. Additionally, he will be accountable for optimizing sales and profit plans for the region. The countries and territories in which Burger King currently operates in this region include: Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Freeport, Grand Cayman, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nassau, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Silva joined Burger King Corporation in 1993 and has held a number of senior positions in the legal department, most recently Vice President and General Counsel for Latin America. In that role, Rick has been responsible for all legal matters related to the business, including restaurant operations, franchising, trademarks, marketing, employment, corporate and real estate. In his capacity as vice president and assistant General Counsel for North America, he handled all real estate matters in the United States and Canada related to the company’s portfolio of over 2000 properties. He has also provided support as the corporate secretary for Burger King Corporation, ensuring that the company adheres to its corporate governance structure and procedures.

Prior to joining Burger King Corporation, Silva served as an attorney with the Miami office of Greenberg, Traurig, P.A. He is a licensed attorney of the State of Florida and is a member of the Florida Bar. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Beacon Council, and is a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association.

Silva graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Accounting (cum laude) from the University of Miami (Florida) and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is fluent in Spanish and lives in Miami with his wife and two young children.
