Submarine sandwich chain Blimpie is celebrating 42 years with a new logo and promotion.

On April 4, 1964, three high school friends in Hoboken N.J. opened the
first BLIMPIE on Washington St. By the time the door closed at 9 p.m., $295
had been rung up – with sandwich prices ranging from 35 to 95 cents.

“BLIMPIE has come a long way over the past 42 years. We began as a
traditional sub shop serving ‘a salad on a sandwich’ and have grown into
nearly 1,600 restaurants nationwide expanding our menu to appeal to today’s
sandwich eating consumer,” said Mark Mears, chief marketing officer for
BLIMPIE. “We plan to remain a pacesetter in the sandwich segment by keeping
the BLIMPIE brand on-trend and in line with our mission to provide a
remarkable guest experience by delivering Real. Fresh. Taste.(TM) that fills
the senses with every bite.”

BLIMPIE restaurants are featuring three ‘Hot Classic’ subs during the
month of April. The ‘Hot Classics’ line-up features traditional BLIMPIE hot
sub favorites with a contemporary ‘twist’ — Meatball Parmigiana, Peppercorn
Steak and Grilled Chicken Marinara. The Meatball Parmigiana features Italian
meatballs gently smothered in zesty tomato basil marinara sauce and topped
with slices of melted provolone cheese and sprinkled with a four-cheese blend.
The Peppercorn Steak includes thinly sliced beef and onions with melted
provolone cheese and cracked peppercorn sauce. The Grilled Chicken Marinara
consists of grilled chicken strips with melted provolone cheese, tomato basil
marinara sauce and oregano. All three of these sandwiches are formulated to
contain zero grams of trans fat and can be ordered on the new whole grain
wheat bread, or any of the other fresh-baked artisan breads offered by
BLIMPIE.

In honor of its birthday, consumers can visit http://www.blimpie.com, between
April 4 and April 30, 2006, to vote online for their favorite #1 song from the
past 42 years as well as their favorite ‘Hot Classic’ sub at BLIMPIE. This
site will go live April 4. Those who visit the website to vote also will have
an opportunity to join the BLIMPIE Important Person (B.I.P.) Club. One lucky
new B.I.P. Club registrant will be selected at random to win a year’s supply
of BLIMPIE sandwiches. In addition, a free Blimpie will be awarded to 42
second prize winners. Other club membership benefits include access to special
offers exclusively available on the B.I.P. Club website.

The ‘Hot Classics’ sandwich promotion will be supported by BLIMPIE via a
fully integrated multi-media campaign, including broadcast, print advertising,
in-restaurant merchandising and local restaurant marketing activities.
