Bruegger’s Enterprises, Inc. today reported that first quarter system-wide gross sales were $51.33 million, compared with $48.27 million in 2006, marking a 6.3 percent increase. Revenue for comparable sales grew 1.1 percent at company locations and .8 percent system wide for the first quarter ending April 17, 2007. This period marks 12 consecutive quarters of growth for the chain.

During the quarter Bruegger’s opened three bakeries, two company-owned and one franchise-operated bringing the total to 255 bakeries in 21 states. Franchisees have executed development commitments for nearly 100 new units to be built along with company units over the next few years.

“2006 was a record sales year for us, and we are happy to see the momentum continue into the first quarter,” says Bruegger’s CEO James J. Greco. “We are optimistic about the second quarter when we will continue expanding into new markets.”

Bruegger’s expects to open 40 new bakeries this year and another 50 bakeries in 2008.
