It’s one of those facts a restaurant operator might not think about too much, but it’s true: Without packaging, there would be no foodservice as we know it today.

It was with that sentiment in mind that QSR magazine and the Foodservice and Packaging Institute teamed up four years ago to create the QSR/FPI Foodservice Packaging Awards. The goal? To honor the best in foodservice packaging.

If response to the program is any indication, there are plenty of individuals in the industry who have great professional chops in the packaging arena. Past winners have included such outfits as Chick-fil-A, Gold Star Chili, Which Wich, Anheuser-Busch, Pactiv, and more.

The deadline for the 2006 installment of the awards is July 31, 2006. There are seven categories for entry, and one package will be crowned the overall “Foodservice Package of the Year.” Winners of the 2006 competition will receive coverage in the November 2006 issue of QSR magazine and will be honored at FPI’s board of directors meeting in Toronto in October.

Entry forms and details are available at www.qsrmagazine.com/packagingawards/.

QSR magazine is the leading business publication for the quick-service, fast-casual, and related segments of the restaurant industry. The Foodservice and Packaging Institute is the material-neutral trade association for converters, raw material and machinery suppliers of foodservice packaging products.
