Del Monte Takes on Spring Break with ‘Beach Bash Dash’

As part of its initiative to raise awareness among college students of the benefits of eating healthful, fresh, and fresh-cut produce, Del Monte Fresh will provide its first “Beach Bash Dash” competition during spring break from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 6-8 and March 11-13 in front of the Plaza Resort and Spa, 600 North Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach, Florida, 32118. 

During the festivities, Del Monte Fresh also will give away 200 banana costumes to spring breakers who will participate in a massive “Banana Dance” on the beach. The “Banana Dance” takes place at 3:30 p.m. March 7 on the pool deck of the Plaza Ocean Club, 640 North Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach, Florida, 32118.
 
At the “Beach Bash Dash,” college students from around the world will go head-to-head as they race to complete a series of one-of-a-kind challenges on the beach in an obstacle course designed in the Del Monte spirit of combining health with fun. The names of the obstacles say it all: Plank Walk, Fruit Loops, Sand Crawl, Fruit Toss, Puzzle Dig, and Pit Fall. Race times will be kept only for bragging rights. 
 
The campaign comes in the wake of research, including an Oregon State University study, which reveals that college students are not even eating one serving a day of fruits and vegetables, nowhere near the five daily servings that are recommended by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines. In addition to the giveaways at the obstacle course, Del Monte Fresh produce – bananas and fresh-cut pineapples – will be given away throughout the six-day period at multiple hotels along the beach.

Leading up to "Beach Bash Dash," Del Monte Fresh provided a sweepstakes to promote the competition among spring breakers.
