Donate a Cell Phone, Get a Free Wrap at Pollo Tropical

Pollo Tropical is teaming up with Women in Distress for the second Helping Handhelds campaign. 

Customers can bring any unwanted cell phone to a Pollo Tropical location on Tuesday, March 1 and receive a free Shrimp Quesadilla Wrap or a Chicken Quesadilla Wrap.

“The Helping Handhelds Campaign is an easy and delicious way for the community to help a great cause,” says Kim Miller, vice president of marketing and communications for Pollo Tropical.

“Last year, Pollo Tropical fans helped collect 2,000 phones in one day, a record number for Women In Distress. We hope to raise even more phones this year,” Miller says.

For each mobile phone -- complete with batteries -- a customer brings in, they will receive a free wrap. The phones do not have to be operational, and all makes and models are accepted.

The used mobile phones will be refurbished and programmed to dial 911, so those in distress may receive the emergency care needed. Phones will also be recycled to help generate much-needed funds for Women In Distress and their critical programs, including the Project SAFE Place Capital Campaign. This $5 million campaign will help expand all services at a new, consolidated Jim and Jan Moran Family Center located in Deerfield Beach. The center is set to open in Spring 2011.

Women In Distress, is a nationally-accredited, full-service, domestic violence center that has been serving domestic violence victims and their families for over three decades.
