The Dairy Queen system’s newest, most exciting restaurant concept has opened its doors at 845 Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor, Connecticut. The new 2,630 square-foot DQ Grill & Chill restaurant has added 45 new jobs, contributing to South Windsor’s employment growth. The new restaurant also will contribute to the state’s restaurant sales, which according to the National Restaurant Association are projected to increase by three percent this year.
“We are excited to open our first DQ Grill & Chill restaurant in South Windsor and welcome the community in to enjoy our full menu of cravable food items, cool treats, and Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies, and Julius Original drinks,” says Gary Somerset, restaurant operator, who has operated a DQ restaurant in Kensington for nearly 40 years. “This new restaurant is sure to become a location where families and friends can gather to share smiles and stories over a great meal and treats.”
An Array of Menu Options
The DQ Grill & Chill concept blends the best of DQ iconic history with the most modern innovations in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. The food menu features the quarter- and half-pound GrillBurger made to order, as well as other delicious and unique food items, including deli-style Iron Grilled Sandwiches. Other menu offerings include Grilled or Crispy Chicken Sandwiches and Salads; Chicken Strip Baskets; Shrimp Baskets; Quesadillas and Chili Cheese Dogs.
A new deal is the $5 Buck Lunch, available daily from11 a.m. to 4 p.m.at participating locations. Fans have a choice of a quarter-pound GrillBurger with cheese, 3-piece Chicken Strip Lunch, or a Chili Cheese Dog, which are all served with fries, a beverage, and choice of a sundae. For just $1 more, fans also will have the option to upgrade their small sundae to a small Blizzard Treat.
Complementing the “Grill” is the “Chill,” with the traditional and indulgent Dairy Queen soft-serve treats everybody knows and loves. Along with all of the DQ favorites, such as the signature Blizzard Treats, MooLatté frozen blended coffee beverages, DQ Cakes, and waffle bowl sundaes and cones, fans can choose from a variety of fruit-blended beverages, including Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies and now Orange Julius Light Smoothies. All Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies, Light Smoothies, and Julius Original drinks are available in eight flavors including Orange, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Tripleberry, Mango Pineapple, Berry-Pom, OrangeBerry, and Piña Colada, and protein or banana boosts can be added. The Orange Julius Premium Fruit Smoothies are made fresh to order with real fruit blended with low-fat yogurt. The Orange Julius Light Smoothies are 170 calories or less in a small, contain no artificial sweeteners or flavors and are yogurt free.
Design and Décor
The DQ Grill & Chill restaurant interior brings an innovative dimension to QSR dining. Highlighted by the modern open-air grill and separate “Grill” and “Chill” sections, the restaurant features comfortable booths and large wooden tables, warm lighting, music, and an overall inviting environment. The restaurant can seat 60 guests inside, 48 outside and also offers a convenient drive-thru window.
