Free cookies at Subway! The month of April has always been overshadowed by a feeling of doom and gloom as citizens in the United States and Canada scramble to make sure that the tax man gets his cut on time. This year, Subway Restaurants hopes to make this time a little sweeter for its customers.

On Monday, April 15th (tax day in the United States and fifteen days before taxes are due in Canada), every customer to visit Subway restaurants in the United States and Canada will receive a free cookie. Customers may select one free cookie in the flavor of their choice while supply lasts—no purchase required. In addition, Subway’s national television advertising will be tagged during the days leading up to April 15th, in order to build excitement and create word-of-mouth buzz.

“This is a customer appreciation initiative and our way of saying thanks to the millions of consumers who have made Subway the number one quick-serve restaurant chain, in terms of number of locations, in the U.S. and Canada,” says Subway’s chief marketing officer, Bill Schettini. The free cookie day promotion comes just days after the introduction of a number of overall improvements to the Subway cookie line. These changes include the premier of a new flavor, Double Chocolate (chocolate cookie with white and dark chocolate chips), an increase in the number of chips and nuts used in certain cookie varieties and a new larger cookie size in Canada.

According to Mark Christiano, Subway’s baking specialist, “We are very excited about the roll out of the new flavor and the other formula enhancements. Free cookie day is the perfect way to showcase the upgrades and great tastes that consumers have come to expect from Subway.”
