Freshens, the frozen yogurt and smoothie company, is redefining healthy food and treats with the launch of its new concept store at Western Kentucky University. The fully integrated design features handcrafted, savory dessert and breakfast crêpes, in addition to its signature frozen yogurt and smoothie platform.

“We’re thrilled to be a leader in helping Freshens with the nation’s first rollout of this concept,” says Gary Meszaros, assistant vice president of auxiliary services at WKU. “We’re always looking for ways to meet our customer’s needs, and this fresh crepe concept will do just that on our campus. With its new look, products, and location, we feel it will be a huge success.”

Crêpes are individually prepared in front of the customer. Proteins and cheeses are steamed on a traditional crêpe iron that uses no oil or grease. Customers can choose from savory options including Southwest Chicken, Chicken Pesto, and Tomato Cheese and Basil; Egg White Florentine or Steak and Egg breakfast crepes; and traditional crepe desserts that feature Nutella and fruit. Fresh ingredients are used.

Nena Shomler, marketing manager for WKU Restaurant & Catering Group, expressed her excitement for the concept.

“The WKU campus community is so excited about the new crêpes,” she says. “Students are raving about the crêpes and bringing their friends to try it. The crêpe program definitely fits into the cool factor with the students. The new Freshens crêpe program has helped us add another level to our dining service. We are able to offer something to the campus community that they cannot get anywhere else in town.”

Freshëns plans to open 50 new integrated crepe, smoothie, and frozen yogurt locations in 2012, including airports, college campuses, health care facilities, and regional malls.
