Panera Bread Co. said Monday that sales increased 9.6 percent for the four weeks ended June 14.
Total system sales are based on restaurants that have operated for at least 18 months.
Company-owned sales were up 8.2 percent for the same period; franchised sales were up 10.2 percent, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
For the eight weeks ended June 14, total sales increased 10 percent, and year-to-date sales through June 14 were up 7.7 percent.
Despite sales growth of 10 percent that exceeded the company's target of 6.5 percent to 8 percent for the first eight weeks of the quarter, it says it still expects earnings per diluted share to be in the target range of 32 cents to 33 cents.
St. Louis-based Panera Bread Co. owns and franchises bakery-cafes under the St. Louis Bread Co. and Panera Bread names.
