Winston-Salem, NC—May 15, 2002— Industry reports say that Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. plans to increase its new store openings in fiscal year 2003 from 59 to 62 due to strong sales in the first quarter. Krispy Kreme opened 30 stores in fiscal 2001 and 44 in fiscal 2002.

Also, development rights in Texas, Wyoming, and Montana were awarded to three separate franchise groups, bringing the Krispy Kreme concept to five new markets.
