McDonald's restaurants throughout greater Phoenix and northern Arizona will host Family Health & Safety Day, September 29, at 9 a.m., an unprecedented child safety event that will give away 20,000 bicycle helmets.

Parents that visit their local McDonald's restaurant with their children, ages 5 – 10, will receive a free bicycle helmet provided by the Arizona Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics (AzAAP).

Bicycle helmets will be distributed to parents at McDonald's restaurants in Maricopa, La Paz, Mohave, Yavapai, Coconino, Gila, Navajo, Apache, Graham, and Pinal counties. The free bicycle helmet offer excludes Walmart and mall McDonald's restaurant locations.

Safe Kids Arizona volunteers will be on site at McDonald's locations to properly fit the bicycle helmets.

In addition, 50 McDonald's restaurant locations will host Health & Safety Fairs with state/county/city community service organizations providing health screenings and injury prevention information to local families.

"We are pleased to partner with the Arizona Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics, Arizona Safe Kids, and Arizona Department of Transportation to provide injury prevention information to families," says Travis Heriaud, Phoenix McDonald's owner. "We hope our collaboration with these community organizations will help improve the family experience and keep children safe."

"Phoenix and northern Arizona McDonald's grant to our child safety program has allowed AzAAP to provide thousands of bicycle helmets to Arizona children that we hope will help prevent bike injuries," says Sue Braga, executive director of Arizona Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics. "We want parents to learn about the importance of wearing safety gear and of having a proper fit."
