Newk’s Express Café Highlights Lent-Friendly Menu Items

Newk’s Express Café is highlighting its Lent-friendly menu items. As Catholics abstain from meat on Fridays during Lent, their meal options are limited. Newk’s Express Café has several seafood and vegetarian dishes perfect for Lent.

Newk’s offers several vegetarian salads — the Simply Salad, Greek Salad, and Caesar Salad — that are plain or with salmon or shrimp. They also have the Shrimp Remoulade Salad. For pizzas, the Spicy Shrimp Pizza, Veggie Pizza, Five Cheese Pizza, and Margherita Pizza are great Friday options during Lent. Sandwiches include the Shrimp Po’boy, Vegetarian Club, and Pimiento Cheese. Newk’s also has menu items for kids on Fridays during Lent like the Little Newk’s Toasted Grilled Cheese and the Little Newk’s Cheese Pizza.

Newk’s also has several limited time offers that are perfect for Lent. Two new pizzas — the salmon pizza featuring fresh dill, capers, red onion, and a tangy dill sauce and the crawfish pizza with gouda, provolone, artichokes, red peppers, and yellow peppers — are meat-free for Fridays. The new four cheese mac and cheese dish is available with crawfish or plain as an entrée or side dish.

“We’ve always focused on making sure [our] menu has a lot of variety to please even the pickiest eaters,” says Chris Newcomb, co-founder and CEO. “During Lent, our vegetarian and seafood dishes become even more popular on Fridays. We are happy to satisfy the dietary needs of our customers with delicious and flavorful salads, sandwiches, and pizzas.”

Newk’s Express Café provides an express casual dining experience and features a variety of made-to-order choices including fresh-tossed salads, oven-baked sandwiches, California-style pizzas, made-from-scratch soups, and homemade cakes baked by Newk’s Bakery Company. A selection of wines by the glass and beer is also available at select locations.

Since opening its first location in Oxford, Mississippi, in 2004, Newk’s has expanded their presence to 11 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Newk's has more than 50 restaurants and more than 40 are franchised. Projections call for 10 new restaurants to open in 2013.
