In a study of healthy dining trends in the U.S. released earlier this month by Mintel Group LTD, consumers reported that demand for healthful restaurant options are more vital than ever. With less than 500 calories each, Quiznos two, chef-inspired Surf and Turf salads satisfy customer cravings for something low-calorie.

“Diners see dining out as time to indulge, which means the industry needs to do more to hit both menu marks to create appealing “craveable” foods that are healthful,” says Kathy Hayden, foodservice analyst for Mintel.

The new Black & Blue Salad features high quality black-angus steak that is heated in the toaster with blue cheese crumbles and topped with fresh cut red onions, diced tomatoes, served on seasonal lettuce, and topped off with fat-free Balsamic Vinaigrette.

The fan favorite Lobster & Seafood Salad boasts lobster and fresh, diced tomatoes accented by Quiznos signature Buttermilk Ranch dressing and a lemon wedge served on a bed of seasonal lettuces.

“We know our guests love our quality ingredients and also expect innovation from Quiznos. We are providing two great choices with both our great lobster salad and bringing back a fan favorite Black & Blue salad,” says Susan Lintonsmith, chief marketing officer. “We are featuring both recipes as salads but also making them available in a sub version. With high quality ingredients like black-angus steak and lobster in these two limited time options, we are able to satisfy our guests demand for innovative, low-calorie options.”

Quiznos understands that the two new salads and subs come with tough decisions to be had, so the brand recently launched an interactive microsite poll that helps customers with their big decision. The ‘Surf vs. Turf’ site allows customers and fans to answer a series of questions to determine whether they are better suited for surf or turf. At the end of the game, players have the opportunity to enter for a chance to enter into a sweepstakes to win an all expense paid beach getaway, a trip to dude ranch, or $5,000 cash.
