Saladworks, the nation’s first and largest fresh-tossed salad franchise concept, announced an agreement to develop Charles County, Maryland with its first Saladworks location. With three locations currently operating, this deal marks five additional locations planned for the state within the next two years.

Husband and wife team Lewis and Jewell Powell, both independent business owners, always wanted to open a franchise, but couldn’t seem to find one that they really liked – until Jewell had lunch with her sister at a Saladworks.

“My sister said, ‘You have to try this salad!’  I tried it and fell in love – it was really good, really fresh,” Jewell Powell says.  “After that, I knew that if we were finally going to open a franchise, it would be a Saladworks.”

“Truth be told, we chose Saladworks because we firmly believe in the brand," Lewis Powell says. "It is an excellent alternative to what is in the marketplace right now.  I think Charles County and our region will find the Saladworks concept and product extremely rewarding.”

The next Maryland location, slated for the Annapolis area, is set to open in late summer.  Relying on the proven Saladworks concept and model, another set of first-time franchisees, Derek Morrell and Nicole Roudiez, were confident in their ability to operate as multi-unit franchisees with a three-store deal. Multi-unit operation is also on the Powell's horizon.

“We’re excited to be the first to bring Saladworks to Charles County, but also look forward to expanding throughout the mid-Atlantic region,” Lewis and Jewell Powell say.

“Both Lewis and Jewell Powell have such an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong business background – which is exciting for us about them becoming Saladworks operators in the growing area of Maryland,” says John Scardapane, founder and CEO.
