Smithfield's Named Food Sponsor of HoopsFest 2012
Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q is proud to announce its support of the 2012 HoopsFest event in Raleigh, North Carolina, an annual basketball exhibition that raises funds for The Healing Place of Wake County.
In its third year, the HoopsFest event (co-chaired by Chris Corchiani, former North Carolina State University basketball star, and Tom Bonfield, current member of the Healing Place Board of Directors) will take place on Saturday, October 13, at The Healing Place in Raleigh.
HoopsFest was designed to raise funds and awareness of The Healing Place of Wake County, a nonprofit recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless men and women in the Triangle community.
The $50,000 raised at HoopsFest in 2011 funded more than 1,400 client days in a recovery program where 76 percent of the clients are still sober one year after completion.
Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q remains proud of its ability to regularly contribute to local nonprofit organizations that have a history of supporting the local communities that the restaurant brand serves locally.
“The costs that we can help The Healing Place defray means more and more of the funds they work hard to raise throughout the year, and at events like HoopsFest can go directly to support the important work they are doing here in our community,” says Richard Averitte, marketing director of Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q.
“In just a few short years, the staff, volunteers, and supporters of The Healing Place have done a tremendous job of creating an annual fundraising event that does just that,” he continues, “and we are honored to be a part of HoopsFest 2012.”
Chris Corchiani, co-chair of HoopsFest for The Healing Place of Wake County, says, “I’m excited to invite people out to join us on October 13 for some basketball and wonderful food from Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q at The Healing Place of Wake County.
“Besides having a great time, attendees will get to see a recovery program that helps people find their way back from the devastating effects of homelessness and addiction,” he continues. “The Healing Place has had over 700 graduates of the program and each one of those folks left with a job and a stable place to live.”
