Thirty-five years after Taco Cabana introduced its signature patio experience to San Antonio, Texas, the “Original Mexican Patio Café,” located in the historic Monte Vista neighborhood, is beginning a month-long restoration project.

The project will restore the 35-year-old restaurant to the original look and feel of its opening in 1978. The restoration culminates on the brand’s 35th anniversary on September 21 with a special grand reopening fiesta event that will include the family of Taco Cabana’s founder, Felix Stehling.

In addition, Taco Cabana will mark the anniversary celebration with a 35-cent bean and cheese taco special, offered September 21 and 22 in all restaurants.

The restoration project will update the exterior of the building and property, and include retro signage and awnings to reflect the exterior of the restaurant as it appeared back in 1978.

The interior will be redecorated, as well, and feature a memorabilia wall celebrating the 35-year history of Taco Cabana’s very first restaurant.
