Wendy’s International, Inc. (NYSE: WEN) announced May 16 that its core businesses continued to produce excellent sales results during the April period, which ended on May 7, 2000. Same-store sales at Wendy’s U.S. company operated restaurants increased 3.0% in April, on top of a 7.3% increase reported for the same period a year ago. Tim Hortons same-store sales in Canada increased 7.3% in April, on top of 10.8% growth a year ago.

“Our positive sales momentum continues at Wendy’s¨ and Tim Hortons¨,” said Jack Schuessler, chief executive officer and president. “We are focused on building customer transactions with multiple sales driving strategies.” Year-to-date, same-store sales at Wendy’s U.S. have increased 3.3% and Tim Hortons Canada increased 9.2%.

Wendy’s promoted its Monterey Ranch Chicken(TM) sandwich during April and has several promotions scheduled for the rest of the year.

“Our calendar is packed with marketing focused on promotional products, core menu items, Super Value Menu(TM), Kids’ Meals(TM) and an emphasis on late night,” Schuessler added.

Tim Hortons’ upcoming national marketing will spotlight the Company’s successful iced cappuccino product.
