Wendy’s restaurants in the New York Tri-state area recently presented checks totaling $68,017.67 to three organizations providing disaster relief for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Long Island Cares Inc. the Harry Chapin Food Bank, Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City each received $22,672 to aid in the recovery efforts they are providing to residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Wendy’s raised the funds through two initiatives:  On Thursday, December 13, 2012, from 5–8 p.m., participating restaurants in the New York Tri-state area hosted a Fundraising Night.

Fifteen percent of total store sales at each participating restaurant were donated to the three beneficiaries.

That evening also kicked off the beginning of a month-long coin canister collection. Special coin canisters were placed at the front counter of all participating restaurants through January 17, 2013.

One hundred percent of all funds collected were donated to the three beneficiaries.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of Hurricane Sandy and our communities that have suffered such devastation,” says Wendy’s New York Co-Op president Greg Dunn. “Our Wendy’s franchisees and operators in the Tri-state area wanted to join in the relief effort to help the victims and our communities in need. We would like to thank our loyal and generous customers for their support of this initiative. ”
