White Castle Puts 'Puzzle' Together for Autism Speaks

Continuing its commitment to Autism Speaks, White Castle will again participate in the Autism Speaks Puzzle Piece campaign. White Castle customers and employees can purchase a puzzle piece for $1, attach it to the castle wall, and support the nation’s largest autism research and advocacy organization. Puzzle pieces are available July 24 through August 20 in all restaurants.

“In 2010, White Castle donated $500,000 to Autism Speaks from sales of the Original Slider candle and the puzzle piece campaign,” says Jamie Richardson, vice president of government and corporate communications.

Cravers purchased 384,190 puzzle pieces in 2010.

“We’re hoping that our customers and employees get the crave to support and give back to an organization White Castle is committed to helping,” Richardson says. “The goal is for Cravers to purchase more puzzle pieces this year so we can make a larger donation to Autism Speaks.”

In addition to purchasing the puzzle pieces in restaurants, customers will receive a certificate for a free Original Slider.

According to the Autism Speaks website, autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders. It’s estimated that one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism. An estimated 1.5 million people in the U.S. are affected by this biological disorder. Scientists have yet to determine a definite cause for autism.
