dash consisting of eight heats and a total of 64 speedy little wiener dogs—was held June 3rd to benefit an animal shelter. Sponsored by Wienerschnitzel, the Wiener Nationals raised more than $10,000 for the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. This year's event attracted over 5,000 spectators.

Estelo Hinojos of West Covina and her dachshund, Meneo, proved to be a winning team as Meneo raced across the finish line in 6.2 seconds to become the "2000 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Top Dog." For their first place victory, Hinojos and her dog received $500 and an official Wienerschnitzel doghouse. The second place winner received $200, while the third through eighth place winners all received $50.
