Wienerschnitzel, the world’s largest hot dog chain, announced the return of its 99-cent Original Chili Dog deal. Back by popular demand, this “Hot Dog” of a deal is available at participating locations from January 3 to 22.

This promotion is the first of many during Wienerschnitzel’s 2012 “Heritage” campaign, which will focus on the brand’s authenticity, company history, and good vibrations from the ’60s and ’70s. Company founder John Galardi will play an instrumental role in 2012 as the face of the brand. In a series of commercials, Galardi will share stories from Wienerschnitzel’s early days and promote a variety of food deals, starting with the 99-cent Original Chili Dog promotion.

The commercial began airing January 3 and features Galardi sharing how, back in the early ’60s, he would try just about anything to get customers in the doors. From crazy costumes to flashy gimmicks to prize drawings for a brand new color TV, Galardi was open to it all. It didn’t take him long to realize that brand loyalty comes down to the food, and that his “secret weapon” was his delicious proprietary chili recipe.

“From day one, more than 50 years ago, it’s the food that’s been driving customers in, and it’s the reason our loyal guests keep coming back,” says Tom Amberger, vice president of marketing for Wienerschnitzel. “We understand that authenticity and transparency is important to consumers so we thought: what better way to announce our 99-Cent Chili Dog deal than straight from the man who made it all possible.”

The Original Chili Dog is a grilled hot dog smothered with Wienerschnitzel’s signature chili and served in a soft, steamed hot dog bun. Chili Dog lovers are encouraged to hurry into their local participating Wienerschnitzel locations starting January 3.
