Wingstop celebrated the accomplishments of five talented Dallas-Fort Worth high school athletes with a special reception and awards presentation at the KTVT-TV CBS studios in Fort Worth on June 7.

The Richardson, Texas-based wing chain honored student athletes throughout the semester during its High School Scholar Athlete of the Month program. Since then, five athletes from around D-FW high schools received recognition in the program’s inaugural year.

“Our High School Scholar Athlete of the Month program is a great way to honor outstanding and talented student athletes from the D-FW area,” says Rex Heckelman, president of the Wingstop DFW Advertising Co-op. “These five students have shown time and time again how dedicated they are to their teams, schools, academics, volunteering, and extracurricular activities. We couldn’t be happier with this year’s honorees.”

When the program launched in January, Wingstop and KTVT-TV CBS invited viewers, athletic directors, coaches, and members of the community to nominate exceptional athletes in the Metroplex to receive a $1,000 scholarship from Wingstop.

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of nominations in our first year of the High School Scholar Athlete of the Month program, and we’re very eager to see what talented students next year’s nominations bring our way,” Heckelman says. “This program is a great way for Wingstop to get involved with our community and honor deserving students.”

During a Wingstop-catered banquet on June 7, the athletes received $1,000 scholarship checks along with a certificate of appreciation. The banquet was held at the KTVT-TV CBS Ft. Worth studios where the program was recorded and on-air talent stopped by and met the student athletes.

The five scholar athletes came from all across D-FW high schools. Recipients included Bailey Shepherd, Birdville High School in North Richland Hills; Teddy Croft, Coppell High School; Carolyn Conely, Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth; Ethan Roberts, Rowlett High School; and Timothy Ryan Chism, Midlothian High School.

Nominations for Wingstop’s Scholar Athlete of the Month program for the 2012-2013 school year will begin in August.
