The Subway restaurant chain, the world's largest restaurant brand in terms of number of worldwide locations, is proud to announce that it has named Bob Grewal, of Orange County, California, as the recipient of its 2012 Development Agent of the Year award for the chain’s Pacific Region, during the company’s recent convention in Orlando, Florida. Bob Grewal was also presented with this award in 2011 and is the only development agent that has won this same recognition back to back.

Chiefly responsible for building and managing a geographical territory for the restaurant chain, Subway development agents, known as DAs, provide local franchisees with the necessary support and expertise to help them launch and run a successful business.

As a Subway Development Agent of the Year recipient, Grewal is honored for accomplishments in developing the Subway brand within his territory, the level of service and support provided to local franchisees, and his ability to communicate and cooperate within the parameters of the Subway franchise system.

“I was raised in the Subway sandwich business. My father started with his first Subway unit in 1991. Now we own over 30 Subway restaurants and oversee over 1,000 franchised locations in three separate regions spanning from California to Canada. We purchased the Orange County territory in 2007 with 194 franchised Subway restaurants and today we have over 240 Subway restaurants with more planned to conveniently serve our communities. I love this entrepreneurial business and people business. Perhaps that is why I performed this well to be recognized as a contributor to the overall success and growth of the Subway brand,” says Bob.

Bob has a staff of over 20 working out of his Irvine office and declares them to be the best in the industry. His team led by Danny Cheng, vice president of development and David Haywood, director of operation continues to work on improvements to meet the needs of his franchisees and the public. They recently introduced the next generation design in its new stores and a dazzling Subway smart phone application on both iOS and Android systems for super convenient menu ordering and payment.

"Development agents like Bob play an essential role in moving the Subway business forward. They continue to set records in franchise sales, leases signed, and restaurants opened as we expand globally. Focused on three main areas of business:  building profits through operational excellence, building sales through effective marketing, and building restaurants through smart development, they work tirelessly to help our franchisees grow their businesses," says Don Fertman, chief development officer for the Subway restaurant chain.

With more than 37,000 locations in 100 countries, the Subway restaurant chain is the world’s largest restaurant franchise, in terms of number of locations. Headquartered in Milford, Connecticut, and with regional offices in Amsterdam, Beirut, Brisbane, Miami, and Singapore, the Subway chain was co-founded by Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck in 1965. Their partnership, which continues today, marked the beginning of a remarkable journey — one that has made it possible for thousands of individuals to build and succeed in their own business.

In the 2011 Zagat Fast Food Survey, the Subway brand was ranked “number one” by consumers in the “Most Popular,” “Top Service,” and “Healthy Options” categories for food brands with 5,000 or more locations. Subway restaurants were also recently ranked as the number one quick service restaurant, for the 8th time, according to the most recent Harris Poll EquiTrends poll.
