Since September, aspiring songwriters have entered their original lyrics by posting them online. The challenge’s Web site featured pre-recorded music tracks from various genres including hip-hop, rock, bluegrass, island, and country. All lyrics needed to include the following subjects: the North Carolina State Fair theme, “Whole Lotta Happy,” and Subway’s “$5 Footlong.”
From all the entries submitted, a group of semi-finalists auditioned at the fairgrounds on October 10. The field was narrowed down to five contestants who will perform live at the Waterfall Stage. Celebrity judges for the finale will be radio station G105’s “Bob and the Showgram” morning crew: Bob, Mike, Kristin, and Creepy Jon.
The Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 Subway gift card and two tickets to see Anoop Desai’s concert at the State Fair on October 22. Second place will receive a $250 Subway gift card; and the other finalists will receive a Subway Party Platter. Those attending the contest finale at the Waterfall Stage will be eligible for a raffle.
“Last year’s dance contest was such a big success that we wanted to do another fun contest with the State Fair,” says Issa Salman, chairman of the Subway Raleigh Franchisee Board. “All the ingredients are there—song contest, celebrity judges, prizes for a fantastic, crowd-pleasing event.”
