Bojangles’ announced that, with the support of its loyal customers, the more than 100 company- and franchise-operated restaurants across South Carolina have raised $20,000 for South Carolina Future Minds, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting teachers and public education.
Additionally, Camden Middle School’s Lori Cooper, who happens to be the 2010-2011 Kershaw County School District Teacher of the Year, was selected from the thousands of teachers honored online and in Bojangles’ restaurants during May’s Teacher Appreciation Month celebration and awarded with a
five-night Caribbean cruise. She and her husband, who is also a teacher, plan to take the cruise in August to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
As the founding sponsor of Teacher Appreciation Month, Bojangles’ held a two-week in-store fundraiser during which customers purchased $1 and $5 paper apples to honor teachers who made a difference in their lives. South Carolina Future Minds also provided a chance to donate and recognize a teacher on its website, www.SCFutureMinds.org .
“We are proud to present $20,000 to support education and our states’ amazing teachers,” says Bojangles’ President and CEO Randy Kibler. “As a graduate of South Carolina public schools, I know how big an impact these teachers make in their students’ lives. We love being able to recognize the men and women who provide our children with the knowledge and encouragement they need to be successful.”
In addition to sponsoring Teacher Appreciation Month, Bojangles’ is a major supporter of the state’s Teacher of the Year program, having donated more than 3,000 books to the schools and classrooms of District Teachers of the Year in recent months. Bojangles’ also celebrated teachers by providing a complimentary breakfast of delicious biscuit sandwiches for the entire faculty and staff at many of the District Teachers of the Year’s schools.
The money raised during Teacher Appreciation Month will help South Carolina Future Minds provide financial support that benefits the more than 700,000 students currently in the state’s public education system.
“The assistance Bojangles’ has provided to our state’s teachers and students during its second year as a sponsor of Teacher of the Year and Teacher Appreciation Month is invaluable,” says South Carolina Future Minds Executive Director Trip DuBard. “The funds donated today will help our organization equip and advocate on behalf of educators across South Carolina.”
