Little Greek Restaurants has been chosen by the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association as a state winner to receive the National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) Restaurant Neighbor Award.
The NRA and founding partner American Express developed the Restaurant Neighbor Award to recognize restaurants that are outstanding with community service and involvement.
Ninety percent of restaurants are active in their local communities; this award honors those that go beyond.
The Restaurant Neighbor Award is a prestigious award; it creates recognition for those who contribute to their local neighborhoods, as well as inspires other restaurants to contribute.
“We are privileged to receive this award,” says Nick Vojnovic, president of Little Greek Restaurants. “We feel it is important to be active in the community. This award is motivation to surpass what we have already accomplished.”
Little Greek Restaurants is taking community involvement to a new level. Initiatives include being present in schools by providing incentives to children for good grades and behavior, as well as hosting ‘spirit nights,’ where a percentage of the proceeds is donated back to the school.
Little Greek Restaurants partner with many charitable organizations, such as Metropolitan Ministries, Dine Out for No Kid Hungry, Voices for Children, and Strivin’ for Stephen.
“We donate food, water, products, and incentives for volunteers; host fundraisers; and sponsor events, all of which have a reverse effect,” Vojnovic says. “At first, you are happy to be giving back, then it changes; you’re thankful you are able to give back and it’s addicting. You want to do as much as you can for your community.”
Little Greek has major development plans for 2013, including opening six franchised locations, expanding into new markets—including Austin, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky; and Little Rock, Arkansas—and developing a new prototype with the opening of a new Tampa, Florida, location in early April.
"We believe that the Greek/Mediterranean segment is poised to explode in the United States as Americans discover this healthy, delicious cuisine,” Vojnovic says, adding that Little Greek Restaurants will continue to be active in the community. “It is almost an unwritten partnership: We take care and give back to our community, and they do the same for us.”
