2001 QSR 50

Call it the Big Squeeze. In today's industry, ranking high in The QSR 50 means squeezing the most out of existing units. Today's quick-service industry is, in the words of FFCA president and COO Christopher Volk, in a "mature phase." In 1999, net new restaurant development was just 0.9 percent. In 2000, that percentage rose, but to just 1.5 percent. Each year QSR magazine publishes its August issue with the annual QSR 50 study. There are charts, lists, and loads of statistical data in this packed issue. Here you can buy just what is pertinent to the study with this QSR 50 excerpt package.
EXCERPT:
Schlotzky's finished 2000 with 711 restaurants and momentum with their menu of fifteen sadwiches on four types of buns. The growth comes after some high-level management changes and a commitment to enhance deli fare.

At the end of 1999-the year national television advertising started for Schlotzky's-the company increased its public profile by entering branded items in select regional grocery stores. Last August, Richard Valade came on as chief financial officer. Operations improved throughout the franchise, especially in speed-of-service, says John Wooley, president and chief executive officer.
