Sarku Japan Hits the Streets of Northern Virginia

Sarku Japan, the largest Japanese quick-service restaurant chain in the United States, will take its sizzling teriyaki and made-to-order sushi from mall food courts to the streets of Northern Virginia.  


The brand is debuting its first Virginia Teriyaki & Sushi Express street concept in Alexandria at the Kings Crossing Shopping Plaza. 
The location, which is a corporate store, will be the first of three slated to open in Northern Virginia before the end of the year.

Sarku Japan Hits the Streets of Harlem

Sarku Japan, the largest and most successful Japanese quick-service restaurant chain in the United States, will take its sizzling teriyaki and made-to-order sushi from mall food courts to the streets of Harlem, New York.

The store, which is launching on 125th Street between Seventh and Lenox, is part of a major expansion of the brand’s franchise program into the metro NYC area, including locations in Queens, Brooklyn, Yonkers, and Long Island.

Sarku Japan, the largest and most successful Japanese quick-service restaurant chain in the United States, continues the northeast expansion of its franchise program with the opening of six new Teriyaki and Sushi Express stores in the New York metropolitan area.

New locations include Brooklyn, Long Island, Harlem, Yonkers, and two stores in Queens.

Traditionally located in mall food courts nationally, Sarku expanded its brand in 2008 with the launch of freestanding restaurants in major metro markets across the country.

Sarku Japan Expands Teriyaki and Sushi Express in Northeast

Sarku Japan, continues the northeast expansion of its free-standing concept, Teriyaki and Sushi Express, with the grand opening of a fourth New Jersey franchise in East Brunswick, located at 623 Route 18 South. Freestanding concepts are also planned for Ramsey and West New York, New Jersey.

After running a mid-sized paper and plastic goods distribution company for 18 years, local franchisees Paul and Shelly Fung decided they wanted to try the restaurant business. 

Sarku Japan Expands Teriyaki and Sushi Express Concept

Sarku Japan continues the national expansion of its new freestanding concept, Teriyaki and Sushi Express, with the grand opening of a third New Jersey franchise.

Located at 530 Shoppes Plaza in North Brunswick, the restaurant will feature chefs preparing made-to-order sushi and signature teriyaki recipes on a Teppanyaki grill, fresh for guests to enjoy.

With mall vacancies at a high, the food court is becoming more important.

Ever since the first farmers packed up their produce to sell in the town square, food has been an important part of the shopping experience. But lately, it seems the food is better than ever.

At the Macy’s in Chicago, celebrity chefs like Rick Bayless have set up shop with their own quick-service or fast-casual restaurants. In London, luxury department store Harrods boasts 30 restaurants ranging from casual to opulent. And these aren’t the only places beefing up their food offerings.

The Next Big Overseas Market? Sarku Japan Thinks Columbia

Brazil, Russia, India, and China may get all of the attention when it comes to quick serves expanding overseas, but Sarku Japan is planning big growth in another, less-in-demand market: Columbia.

The Canada-based company recently opened its first three units in the South American nation, and plans on a total of 40 there over the next 20 years.

Ben Kitay, president of Sarku Japan, says the new stores are already exceeding expectations, and that the brand should have at least six units open in Columbia before year’s end.
