A Family Affair

Like many kids with restaurant-owning parents, Christine Specht worked for the family business, sandwich chain Cousins Subs, while growing up. But then she went off to college to pursue other interests. “My parents were really great like that,” Specht says. “They would always have made a place for me had I wanted to work in the business, but they certainly allowed me to explore my own avenues.”

For those women who do want to stay involved in and even lead their family-owned brand, it takes a lot of dedication, persistence, and sound business sense.

Donatos’ Continues Southeast Growth With First VA Store

Donatos Pizza, America’s original Edge to Edge pizza restaurant, is continuing its franchise expansion with the opening of its first store in Virginia.

The newest Donatos store, located in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Vienna, Virginia, will be the first of several Donatos scheduled to open in the state this year. Franchise Partners Slice of Life Enterprise LLC, headed by 25-year foodservice veteran Martin White and Len Metheny, have also begun development of a second location in nearby Fairfax.

Donatos Gets an Online Makeover

Donatos Pizza believes in the importance of providing a great customer experience, from the time the order is placed until the customer enjoys the final bite. That belief, with the help of valuable customer feedback, has inspired Donatos to reshape its online ordering system.

“We think customers will be pleased with how user-friendly the new online ordering site is,” says Todd Young, vice president of operations for Donatos Pizza. “The new platform makes ordering simpler, with fewer clicks, and is now twice as fast as our original system.”
