  • Pie Five’s New CEO Drives Growth: Pizza brand poised for national expansion

With more than a million combinations of farm-fresh ingredients, artisan sauces, and handcrafted crust varieties available to customers within five minutes at one affordable price, it’s no wonder that Pie Five Pizza Company is growing quickly. The brand was named “Best Franchise Deal” by QSR magazine and was named one of Fast Casual’s top “Movers and Shakers” four years straight. It was also a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation’s Restaurant News and one of Forbes's “10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands.”

A subsidiary of Rave Restaurant Group Inc., Pie Five is a young brand that operates with the expertise of the almost 60 years of pizza experience of its sister chain, Pizza Inn. Pie Five recently opened its 100th location and continues to expand across the country.

CEO Scott Crane joined the company in January and brought big plans for Pie Five. Crane, who has worked in the restaurant industry since he was a dishwasher at the age of 15, most recently served as CEO of Smashburger. During his tenure, that brand grew from a two-unit startup to the international company it is today with more than 330 locations in 35 states and seven countries. He plans to bring that same momentum to both Rave brands.

“I joined this brand because I believe in the enormous potential of both the Pie Five and Pizza Inn concepts,” said Crane. “I’m a big fan of both brands, and they do a great job of complementing each other.”

This year Pie Five is launching new products, technology, and services. The company just introduced the first fast-casual pizza drive thru in Yukon, Oklahoma, and has partnered with Olo to introduce an online ordering platform that fully integrates Olo’s Dispatch delivery service and Pie Five’s Circle of Crust loyalty program in a smartphone app.

“We continue to search for additional ways to make it easier and more convenient for our customers to get a great personalized pizza at Pie Five,” said Crane. “We’re dedicating time and resources to initiatives that we believe will deliver the most potential as sustainable sales drivers, including maximizing the potential of new sales platforms and adding occasions to dine with us.”

Though the brand already offers four distinct crusts, seven sauces, and more than 40 toppings, Pie Five recently expanded menu offerings with Breadstix and plans to introduce Cinnamon Stix to its dessert menu.

Pie Five continues to look for experienced restaurant franchisees with strong industry knowledge and energy for the growing concept. The company is also focused on national expansion, and many prime markets are still available.

With more than five decades of pizza experience and over 150 years of franchising and restaurant operations experience, Rave offers franchisees the support they need. The company’s Restaurant Support Center houses a talented team driven to support franchisees.

With Crane at the helm, Pie Five and Pizza Inn both continue to innovate to capture new consumers and to help franchisees find success.

“I look forward to unlocking the true potential of Pie Five,” Crane says. “We have an opportunity to truly differentiate ourselves through menu innovation and guest experience.”
