Restaurant and retail design firm starrdesign announced completion of its work on Jar Bar, the new fast casual concept set to open April 2017 in Northbrook, Illinois. The concept was founded by former television producer and lifestyle expert Karen Firsel, along with her husband, commercial real estate developer Adam Firsel.
“We chose starrdesign to develop Jar Bar because of their unique and creative approach to restaurant design. We thought their experience in the restaurant space was the perfect match for what we were looking for in terms of design and branding elements,” says Karen Firsel.
Jar Bar is a 30-seat restaurant that features fresh, nutrient-dense meals for breakfast and lunch, served in an energetic, urban atmosphere. The 1,400-square foot space features an industrial chic design with an energetic, urban vibe. Upon entering the space, guests will feel the modern, vintage aesthetic.
Guests can sit at the community dining table made by a local artisan while the floor’s vintage, floral motif mimics the building’s original tin ceiling. Navy booths, mint green accents and woodwork by a local millworker are prevalent throughout. The “inspiration wall” will showcase the ever-evolving stories, people and experiences that are Jar Bar.
“Working with the Firsels was a breath of fresh air,” says Brie Carlson, associate partner, starrdesign. “The passion Karen and Adam brought to the project is infused throughout the design. They inspired us to create a more dynamic restaurant and encouraged us to have fun with it as well. By connecting early on through our brand discovery process, we were able to successfully bring to life the distinct vision Karen had from the start.”
Jar Bar will be open for breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant plans to expand hours to dinner in the summer.
