The new Columbus area Back Yard Burgers, which opened at 1913 Highway 45 N, right in front of Walmart, is hosting its grand opening celebrations April 24-28. The events include the following:

The Columbus/Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting, Tuesday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Back Yard Burgers located at 1913 Highway 45 N, right in front of Walmart. Lisa James, President of the Columbus Chamber and VIPs from the Mayor’s office, Police and Fire Departments and the Columbus Airforce Base will be attending.

Hometown Heroes Day, Wednesday April 25:  BYB honors Columbus area Hometown Heroes on April 25 where all members of law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, active duty and veteran military personnel including the nearby Columbus Airforce base receive 50 percent off, if in uniform and have ID, for all dine-in purchases.

Back Yard Burgers Offers free Classic Burgers for the first 200 people in line, Saturday, April 28 beginning at 10 a.m. and will be accepting donations for No Kid Hungry and its local partners whose mission is to eliminate childhood hunger in American and in Columbus!

“We want to show our gratitude to those that serve and those in need,” says Josh Powell, owner of the Columbus restaurant. “Our heroes can enjoy Back Yard Burgers flamed-grilled 100 percent Black Angus beef burgers, its famous seasoned fries and hand dipped milkshakes for 50 percent off the regular price on April 25.”

In addition to serving up discounts for those that serve, Back Yard Burgers offers a 25 percent discount to military and veterans service men and women year-round.

The Columbus restaurant is under new ownership by an experienced Back Yard Burger franchisee, Josh Powell, who owns five Back Yard Burgers in Mississippi, including restaurants in Clarksdale, Cleveland, Corinth, Greenwood and now Columbus.

Powell comes from a family of Back Yard Burgers owners.  His father was one of the first franchisees and he has since taken over the business. Under Powell’s leadership, the company has expanded its reach to nine restaurants in Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee.
