In honor of March being National Kidney Month, Taco Cabana will be donating $1 for every shareable sold to the National Kidney Foundation. The fundraiser will extend to all participating TC restaurants across Texas from March 11-24, and will apply to TC shareable menu items.

While Taco Cabana has a strong history of community stewardship and fundraising, the National Kidney Foundation holds a special place due to its personal connection with Richard Stockinger, CEO and President of Fiesta Restaurant Groups (parent company of Taco Cabana).

“This is a life-saving opportunity for people. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for early detection and my sister’s kidney donation,” says Stockinger. “I’m living proof that transplantation can give you a normal life, and I want people to know they can give that same gift of life to someone by becoming a donor. We also need to drive awareness about early testing, because this can affect anyone.”

“Richard has been a long-time supporter of National Kidney Foundation and our work on behalf of 30 million Americans affected by kidney disease,” adds Kevin Longino, CEO of National Kidney Foundation, and a kidney transplant recipient himself. “We are grateful to him and to Taco Cabana for donating funds raised during National Kidney Month, so that we can continue to help patients and families affected by the disease.”

According to the National Kidney Foundation, many people who need transplants of organs and tissues cannot get them because of a shortage of donations. Of the 123,000 Americans currently on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant, more than 101,000 need a kidney, but only 17,000 people receive one each year. Every day 12 people die waiting for a kidney. Organ and tissue donation help others by giving them a second chance at life.

Taco Cabana hopes that this partnership with the National Kidney Foundation will help save lives by driving awareness for early detection and the need for kidney donors.
